If you are evaluating cannabis dispensary marketing platforms, you are almost certainly looking at Alpine IQ, SpringBig, and Dutchie. These three platforms dominate the space, and for good reason. Each is purpose-built for cannabis retail, each integrates with the major cannabis POS systems, and each can run email, SMS, and loyalty campaigns without the platform ban risk you get from Mailchimp or Meta.
But they are not the same platform, and choosing the wrong one for your operation is an expensive mistake. We have run all three across dozens of dispensary accounts. This comparison is based on real-world management experience, not vendor marketing copy.
Our position: We are not affiliated with any of these platforms and do not receive referral fees from any of them. We recommend the platform that is right for the specific dispensary we are advising. Sometimes that is Alpine IQ. Sometimes it is SpringBig. Sometimes it is staying on Dutchie. The right answer depends on your operation.

POS Integration: The Decision That Comes First
Before comparing marketing features, consider your POS. If you are on Dutchie POS, all three platforms integrate with it. If you are on Treez, Cova, or Flowhub, you are effectively choosing between Alpine IQ and SpringBig since Dutchie's marketing tools only integrate natively with Dutchie POS.
POS integration quality matters more than most operators realize. A poorly configured integration means customer data does not flow cleanly into the marketing platform, which means your loyalty points are inaccurate, your segments are wrong, and your automation triggers do not fire correctly. Before choosing a platform, verify that the integration with your specific POS version is stable and well-documented. Both Alpine IQ and SpringBig have strong Dutchie, Treez, and Cova integrations. Flowhub integration is available on both but tends to require more configuration work.
Loyalty Program Capabilities
Alpine IQ Loyalty
The most configurable loyalty engine in cannabis. Alpine IQ allows for complex tier structures, multiple earn rate multipliers, custom redemption rules, bonus point events, and loyalty-triggered automations that fire based on real-time POS data. For dispensaries running sophisticated programs with three-tier structures, VIP escalation paths, and near-reward triggers, Alpine IQ is the only platform that handles all of it natively without workarounds.
SpringBig Loyalty
Clean, well-designed, and faster to configure than Alpine IQ. SpringBig loyalty handles points accumulation, tier structures, redemption thresholds, and the core automation triggers that most dispensaries need. Where it falls short relative to Alpine IQ is in the complexity of tier logic and the granularity of behavioral triggers. For most single-location operators running a standard three-tier program, SpringBig loyalty is entirely sufficient.
Dutchie Loyalty
Functional and fully integrated with the Dutchie POS workflow. Points are tracked at the register without any separate enrollment step, which gives Dutchie a checkout friction advantage. The limitations appear in advanced segmentation and automation. You cannot build the same near-reward trigger sequences or tier upgrade communication flows in Dutchie native loyalty that you can in Alpine IQ or SpringBig. Most Dutchie operators who grow beyond 3,000 active loyalty members find they need to add Alpine IQ or SpringBig to handle their expanding marketing requirements.
SMS Capabilities
If SMS is your primary revenue channel, this section matters most. SpringBig has the best SMS delivery infrastructure in cannabis. Their sender reputation, compliance framework, and carrier relationships produce delivery rates and open rates that consistently outperform the alternatives. We have run SMS campaigns on all three platforms and the difference in deliverability is measurable.
Alpine IQ's SMS capabilities are excellent and fully integrated with the CRM and loyalty data, meaning you can send SMS triggered by specific loyalty milestones, near-reward thresholds, and behavioral segments in ways SpringBig does not natively support. For operators who want to maximize the precision of SMS targeting, Alpine IQ is stronger. For operators who want to maximize raw deliverability and open rates on broadcast SMS campaigns, SpringBig is the better choice.
Dutchie has SMS capabilities built in and continues to build them out. For operators who want everything under one roof, Dutchie SMS is a workable option. If SMS is your primary revenue driver and you want best-in-class delivery rates, SpringBig is the specialist. But Dutchie SMS is not a reason to rule the platform out, especially for dispensaries where email and loyalty are the main focus.
When to Switch Platforms
Platform transitions we see typically happen when a dispensary has a specific capability gap their current platform cannot address. Operators on Dutchie who want deeper CRM segmentation sometimes add Alpine IQ. Operators on Alpine IQ who want the best possible SMS delivery sometimes layer in SpringBig for that channel. Any transition is manageable with proper data migration but requires careful planning to avoid point balance errors and customer communication gaps.
Switching from SpringBig to Alpine IQ is less common but happens as operators scale to multiple locations and need Alpine IQ's more sophisticated multi-location management and CRM capabilities. This is a more complex migration given the deeper data structures involved.
Our recommendation on switching: Do not switch platforms unless you have a specific capability gap that your current platform cannot address. Platform migrations are disruptive and carry customer communication risk. If your current platform is generating good results, optimize it rather than migrating. If you have a genuine capability limitation, plan the migration carefully with at least 30 days of parallel operation before fully cutting over.
Our Verdict: Which Platform for Which Operator
The Platform You Have vs. The Platform You Are Using
The most important insight from managing all three platforms across dozens of dispensary accounts is this: the difference between platforms is smaller than the difference between having someone who knows what they are doing manage the platform and not having that.
We have seen Alpine IQ accounts generating less than $2 per send because the segmentation was not built, the automations were not configured, and the campaigns were generic blasts. We have seen SpringBig accounts generating $10-plus per send because every segment was precise, every automation was tuned, and every campaign had a specific audience and objective.
Platform selection matters. Platform management matters more. If you are evaluating these platforms and wondering which one will generate the most revenue for your dispensary, the honest answer is that any of the three, managed correctly, will dramatically outperform any of the three managed poorly. The platform is the instrument. Who plays it determines the result.
We manage all three platforms for dispensaries across New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. If you are unsure which platform is right for your operation, we are happy to give you a direct recommendation based on your POS, your customer volume, and your marketing goals. No sales pitch involved.
